Artist Statement

Dominick is an accomplished lens-based artist, educator, and community arts organizer with over two decades of experience in creating multidisciplinary works that explore themes of cultural identity, ecological resilience, and decolonial narratives. As the co-founder of Sol Collective, a Sacramento-based community and cultural arts space, Dominick has cultivated innovative models for contemporary cultural arts praxis, engaging diverse audiences through collaborative and community-centered programming.

His current project, Silvery Synthesis, combines 35mm photography, speculative storytelling, and Rasquachismo aesthetics to investigate hidden histories and intergenerational resilience. Drawing on Indigenous philosophies and methodologies, including Dr. Joann Archibald’s Seven Principles, Dominick’s work emphasizes ethical storytelling and non-extractive creative processes. His practice integrates elements of experimental darkroom techniques, sculptural installations, and immersive media experiences, offering a layered and transformative approach to art-making.

He has several contributions which extend into the academic realm as an adjunct instructor at Sacramento State University and a remote art educator specializing in new media and studio arts. He has participated in residencies such as the Banff Centre, the Roswell Museums Emerging Fellowship program and Folger-Shakespeare Library Art Fellow in Washington D.C. for 2025.

His body of works are deeply rooted in the interplay between land, culture, and memory, embodying a commitment to amplifying Indigenous voices and knowledge systems. His projects continue to challenge conventional frameworks, creating spaces for dialogue and engagement that honor both ancestral wisdom and contemporary innovation.
