Artist Statement
Sacramento State has a rich history of Chicano printmaking, which includes the renowned Royal Chicano Air Force (RCAF) collective. In the two projects presented here, today's Sacramento State students respond to that history by reflecting on ephemera and their own identities.
In Fall 2020 and Spring 2021, Printmaking students and students in the Latin American and Latinx Art History course collaborated to create the work presented here. For each project, students viewed RCAF posters from Special Collections and University Archives. After reflecting on ephemera or identity through their interactions with the posters, students engaged these ideas to create their own work.
