Artist Statement
Jose Di Gregorio is a muralist and painter whose work features precise hand-drawn geometric patterns. The results are almost indiscernible machine-like line precision. The symmetrical patterns overlap in both a calming & frenetic nature, providing a sense of the visual phenomena associated with palinopsia (tracers). Exploring this ongoing theme of pattern repetition and saturation, Ghost Dementian brings attention to the subtleties discovered within near-identical paintings.
Having painted for over 20 years, his paintings and murals have been featured in exhibitions and festivals internationally and the U.S., among them Art Basel Miami, France, Finland, Los Angeles, Kosovo, Mexico, New York City, Oakland, Portland, San Francisco, and Sweden, among others.
Jose was born in Rio Piedras, Puerto Rico and studied at the Pont-Aven School of Contemporary Art in Brittany, France, and the Herron School of Art and Design in Indianapolis, Indiana. He currently lives at the Warehouse Artist Lofts in Downtown Sacramento, California.
