Artist Statement
Logical Deformations is a collection of recent artworks from local screwballs Waylon Horner and Jared Tharp. Visually the work of these two artists is similar. Thematically each artist explores his own different fascinations and curiosities.
Waylon's work is dense and chaotic using a population of abstract forms to create a cartoony biomachine of senseless function. He also incorporates an array of body parts, including hands, butts, boobs, and vaginas. His art has way of being grotesque at times yet always has a polite way of doing so, probably in part due to the playful disney-esque forms and friendly color schemes.
Jared's work parallels Waylon’s work in it's cartoonish styling but is generally composed of only a few objects which exist in noisy environments of colorful geometric pattern. In his recent works he has turned much of his focus on painting and drawing grotesque severed legs as a way to communicate a multitude of symbolic associations.
