DESCRIPTION

Sacramento State’s University Union UNIQUE Programs is pleased to announce a Wednesday Nooner concert featuring Joe Kye, a classically-infused folk rock violinist. The concert will be at the University Union Redwood Room on Wednesday, October 28, 2015 at 12 pm. This event is free for students and the general public.

Joe Kye, is an American singer-songwriter born in Seoul, South Korea and raised in Seattle. Kye draws upon an eclectic array of influences including; folk, jazz, classical and rock. Having trained classically from childhood, Kye began to explore different musical genres as a teenager, exploring jazz, blues and rock. He began to write his own songs at the age of 16.

At Yale University, Joe continued to work with singing, directing the Society of Orpheus and Bacchus, the second longest-running undergraduate a cappella group in the United States. After a few years teaching high school English in San Francisco and Seattle, during which time he released his first EP, Plastic Heart, Kye decided to focus on music in 2013.

Joe also plays violin, guitar, mandolin and sings. His work has been compared to Andrew Bird, Sondre Lerche, Nick Drake, and Grizzly Bear.

Joe Kye is also the leader of Joseph in the Well, a band that focuses on a variety of genres including rock, jazz, classical, and world music. Joseph in the Well aims to produce an uplifting and empowering sound, one aimed at self-reflection, (re)discovery, and budding compassion. It is about love, loss, and a universal community.

All ages permitted. No alcohol sold or permitted at venue.
