DESCRIPTION
Sacramento State’s University Union UNIQUE Programs is pleased to announce a Wednesday Nooner featuring Joseph in the Well, a band led by American singer-songwriter Joe Kye. The concert will be hosted at the University Union Serna Plaza on Wednesday, October 29, 2014 at 12 pm. This event is free for Sac State students and the general public.

Joseph in the Well is a band from Sacramento, California. Started in 2013 by violinist-singer-songwriter Joe Kye, the band now performs as a four-piece ensemble. Featuring violin, electric guitar, upright bass and percussion, the band’s unique sound has been compared to Andrew Bird, Grizzly Bear and the Shins. Lush three-part harmonies, layers of intricate string arrangements-Joseph in the Well draws from multiple genres including rock, jazz, classical and world music.

Kye’s songs delve into the fears, injustices and joys of being an immigrant. Like the Biblical character Joseph, Kye journeyed at a young age to a powerful, affluent, and culturally influential country. His electric songwriting and nuanced arrangements reflect his transient upbringing.

Joseph in the Well aims to produce an uplifting and empowering sound, one aimed at self-reflection, (re)discovery, and budding compassion. It is about love, loss, and a universal community.

All ages permitted. No alcohol sold or permitted at venue.
